Modeling boundary friction of coated sheets in sheet metal forming

Abstract In forming processes, friction is a local phenomenon influenced by the contact conditions at tool-sheet metal interface. A multi-scale model applicable for coated sheets developed boundary lubrication regime which accounts physical behavior of coating and measured surface topographies sheet tools. The patches therefore real area determined interface different loading conditions. single asperity micro-scale ploughing adapted each patch to determine force from overall coefficient determined. validated using sets lab-scale tests cup drawing experiments on zinc (GI) steel sheets.
